The history of books

Humans have progressed greatly throughout the course of history. Our Neanderthal ancestors drew painting of what they learned on caves. As time aged, we discovered more clever ways to exhibit our learning. Books were one of the inventions that revolutionized the way we think and presented our work in an organized manner. Many of us see books as a way to gain information, but the Nazis saw them as a threat to their ideology. Any forms of literature that could hurt German interests in their view were burned immediately through propagandist measures. However, in Markus Zuzak’s novel The Book Thief, he shows that it only takes an ounce of courage to defy someone for something you believe in. In Liesel Meminger’s case, she bravely stole one book that was intended for destruction. The fact that she risked her life to save a book shows her deep love for literature and knowledge. Liesels personality matured as she dwelled in the pages of books.

Nazi propaganda was very effective during the days of the 3rd Reich. Books that the Nazis thought would hurt German pride were burned in large bonfires. How would you feel if your favorite books were burned?
